LYCOMING COLLEGE SUMMER MAGAZINE 2023

Weekend highlights included the All-Alumni Welcome Party on Friday evening, and attendees had the opportunity to jump-start their Saturday with yoga on The Quad or a parkrun along the Susquehanna Riverwalk. The All-Alumni Rally & Breakfast and presentation of the Alumni Association Executive Board (AAEB) 2023 Alumni Awards was enjoyed by many. Sharon Trachte, Ph.D., presidential spouse and associate professor emerita (Elizabethtown College), offered two interactive alumni classes on “Who are The French?” With years of teaching experience of French language, culture, and literature, and numerous stays in France, Trachte’s classes examined key characteristics of the French, including physical geography, the art of conversation, the significance of food, meals, and mealtime, and the concept of friendship. The first class held over lunch included typical French cuisine with discussion on how to successfully navigate a meal in a French restaurant. Insightful and delicious, the classes were très magnifique! The Parisian fun continued as AAEB past president and certified sommelier Christine (Colella) Zubris ’04, owner of Versi Vino Wine Bar & Kitchen, led a French wine tasting. The College welcomed into its 2023 Athletics Hall of Fame Abdullahi Abdi ’18 (men’s soccer), Ray Bierbach ’12 (football), Todd Lightner ’00 (men’s lacrosse), Jennifer Reimer ’94 (women’s basketball), Luke Sterling ’06 (football), and Sarah (Wingerden) Zawodzinski ’09 (women’s lacrosse). Holly (Lansberry) Grecco ’13 (softball) was recognized as a Class of 2020 Hall of Fame member, having been unable to attend prior due to the pandemic. Saturday evening kicked into high gear with the ever-popular Bash on the Quad featuring “A Night in Paris” theme, complete with a champagne wall and dessert crêpe bar. We may have said au revoir to 2023, but we hope you’ll plan to join us for next year’s Alumni & Reunion Weekend, May 31- June 2, 2024!
